The history of the Tashkent Medical Academy dates back to 1935, when a medical institute based in the Medical Faculty of the Central Asian University was established in Tashkent, specializing in the training of graduate medical specialists in the main medical specialties, pharmacologists, hygienists.
In the early 1990s, two higher medical educational institutions were established on the basis of several buildings of TashMI: the First Tashkent State Medical Institute and the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute.

Tashkent Medical Academy was established on the basis of the abolished First and Second Tashkent State Medical Institutes by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan IA. Karimova №UP-3629 dated July 19, 2005

The main tasks of the Tashkent Medical Academy are:

–    Ensuring the training of highly qualified medical personnel in order to improve qualitatively the provision of medical care to the population and participating in the improvement of the structure of the health care system;

Coordination and methodical guidance of medical universities of the country as the leading educational institution in the republic for training, retraining and upgrading the skills of medical personnel, as well as conducting research in the fields of medicine, health, the formation of a healthy lifestyle;
–   
Definition of perspective directions of preparation of medical personnel, formation of preventive orientation in activity of doctors taking into account ecological changes in the environment;

By the decision of the State Test Center under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent Medical Academy was given the status of “Higher Educational Institution” (Certificate No. 8 of March 31, 2008)

The structure of the university includes 6 faculties, 52 departments of social, humanitarian, medical and biological, medico-prophylactic, dental and clinical profile, as well as a central research laboratory.

Clinical departments of TMA are located in specialized treatment and diagnostic departments of three powerful clinics of the Academy. At the disposal of the Academy there is also a magnificent museum of the history of medicine, where people can better know the past, present and future of medical science, in particular the Republic of Uzbekistan.

About 1000 teachers work at the departments of the Academy, among them 190 Doctors of Science, over 600 candidates of science, academicians, corresponding members, honorary academicians of foreign academies, honored scientists, honored doctors, deserved educators.
